Composition of a Stream

Fly Fishing: Is this the sport for you?

Fly Fishing

Fly Fishing may seem like an enjoyable and relaxing sport (And it is); but it can be rather difficult at the same time. You must have a real LOVE for fishing along with the knowledge needed to understand the equipment and instructions on using that equipment!

It is so much more different from ordinary fishing!

Ordinary fishing just requires a Rod, Reel, and Bait (worm, minnow, leech, crawdads, etc.). You cast your line out in the water and then wait for the fish to come along and snatch it up.

What do I tie on?

Fly Fishing requires the angler to determine what the fish are biting on. You need to know if to know if the fish are rising to the surface to feed, or are they just munching on the aquatic life in the water.

So now the question is; are they feeding on Nymphs or Scuds, so do I use Wet Flies, Nymphs or maybe Streamers because they happen to be feeding on the minnows.

In order to be somewhat successful this is some of the things you need to figure out.

How can I learn:

If you were fortunate enough to have a Dad, Grandfather, Uncle, or maybe a Brother to pass this sport down to you it may make things a bit easier for you to be able to pull information from their bank of knowledge. If your not so fortunate but would like to learn the Fly Fishing Sport then there are all kinds of classes and courses you can take to teach this. You could be a Pro in a week or two!!

Fly Fishing, Is It A Sport Or Art?

Fly Fishing has become a million dollar business in a rather short period of time, and it doesn’t look like it is going to let up any time soon. Women and Kids are even getting into Fly Fishing!!

Investing in the equipment:

You must remember that it is quite important to have a good Rod and Reel that can match your level of experience. These can run into quite a bit of money, but there are some economically priced outfits out there too. Make sure you do some research, ask some qualified, and experienced individual before investing in this equipment.

Do you need a fishing license:

If you plan to do any fishing (other than on your own pond on your land), you will need to purchase a fishing license. Make sure you carry this with you whenever you are fishing too!! Along with a license make sure you check out the seasons of the fish you are wanting to catch.

Are there rules and regulations:

Remember to check to see if there are any rules and regulations (other than size and limits) in the area you are planning to fish.

Some of these regulations are “Catch and Release” or No Kill Zones. This could only be in certain parts of the stream you are planning to fish. Also another regulation is “Fly Fishing Only” or maybe “No Live Bait”, just to name a few.

Now is the time; is this a sport for you?Fly Fishing is it for you

You will never know until you try it for yourself, so what is holding you back? Get out there and try this “New Form Of Therapy” I think you will find it to be a great sport and adventure into nature.
